Research Masterclass: Applying for Clinical Academic Fellowships

This free 1-hour masterclass was focused on applying for clinical academic fellowships. We were joined by Dr Sharin Baldwin, Christopher Sweeney, and Prof Sally Kendall.
This masterclass was part of a series of events by the QNI’s Community Nursing Research Forum and is open to all community nurses and midwives interested in research.
About the speakers
- Dr Sharin Baldwin is a trained nurse, midwife, health visitor with over 26 years of experience working in the NHS. She joined the iHV Projects and Evaluations team in July 2023 as Senior Health Visiting Research Lead. She will speak about her own clinical academic journey – how it started, the challenges she faced along the way, the opportunities it has created, and where she plans to go next.
- Christopher Sweeney is a clinical academic fellow and a current PhD student at the University of Edinburgh. His PhD research explores how new parents respond to childhood illness and make decisions to use urgent care services in NHS Scotland.
- Sally Kendall is a Professor of Community Nursing and Public Health at the University of Kent, UK and also the co-Director of the International Collaboration for Community Health Nursing Research. Her main research interest is in community care, to improve the health and wellbeing of families and children. The title of her presentation is ‘Where should I start?: Community Nurses building clinical research careers’.
