Fiona’s worked as a care assistant in a Nursing Home prior to qualifying as a nurse in Harrogate 1990. A career began in Harrogate District Hospital working in Orthopaedics followed by SCBU. Enjoying working with families led to a move to the community and roles in School Nursing including becoming a SCPHN – SN and the journey from a school Staff Nurse to a 0-19 Locality Manager. In 2017 Fiona became a Queens Nurse.
Fiona then broadened her knowledge and skills moving to NYCCG becoming a Team Leader Childrens Continuing Care / Commissioning Team gaining experience working with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families. Fiona also had a portfolio of commissioning responsibilities including special school nursing, palliative and end of life care and enuresis. This role introduced Fiona to commissioning from individual packages of care to population level services for North Yorkshire.
A move to West Yorkshire provided the opportunity to become a Young Carers Project Manager for an ICS and this coupled with personal experiences of unpaid caring cemented Fiona’s commitment to work to improve the identification, support, and signposting of all carers. Working for WYICS provided the opportunity to work for an award-winning Unpaid Carers team and Fiona was promoted to Programme Manager for Unpaid Carers. Fiona is passionate about coproduction and coproduced many projects in WY including a Young Carers Support App. Ecookbook and series of films.
Fiona is enthusiastic about personal and professional development and has successfully completed her MBA Leadership with Coaching and Mentoring and enjoys networking, volunteering for Carers Resource and WeCommunities.
In her spare time Fiona spends time with her family, gardening, being active and completing the occasional Parkrun or charity challenge.
Fiona joined the QNI in May 2023, a personal aspiration being a Queen’s Nurse.
