14 May 2020
Nursing in the Community, the film made by The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) for Health Education England (HEE) received special mention in the inaugural Health for All Film Festival held by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 12 May.
Announcing the winners, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhamon gave special mention to the film directed by Charlie Inman for the QNI and HEE.
In her address, Elizabeth Iro, Chief Nursing Officer at the WHO praised the film, saying that it gave recognition to the vital work being carried out by community nurses in the world today. She said the special mention was due to the film being, “very well produced and scripted, with powerful images and narrative between nurses and patients…very emotional but well blended to highlight why community nursing is such an exciting career option.”
The film, directed by Charlie Inman for creative agency Mother London was launched in January 2020. It follows District Nursing teams in London, Dorset and Leeds, as well as cardiac rehabilitation and specialist homeless health services.
[The film was] very well produced and scripted, with powerful images and narrative between nurses and patients…very emotional but well blended to highlight why community nursing is such an exciting career option.
Elizabeth Iro, Chief Nursing Officer at the WHOIt is wonderful to have this recognition from the World Health Organization and Chief Nurse Elizabeth Iro for all nurses working in homes and communities – including care homes - in every village, town and city - especially at this challenging time. It will also encourage students and registered nurses to discover more about the amazing roles in the community today. The film shows the significant contribution of all nurses who work in community settings, delivering complex care to patients at all stages of the life course. I would like to thank all those who helped make the film and bring this message to a global audience.
Dr Crystal Oldman CBE, Chief Executive of the QNIWHO received almost 1300 submissions from filmmakers around the world for the three categories in the competition. The QNI/HEE film was selected as one of just 15 finalists in the nursing and midwifery category, celebrating the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.
