Community nursing charity, The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI), is delighted that its youngest ever fundraiser – a 13-year-old from West Sussex – has raised over £500 for the charity.

Gabi Holland, who is from East Grinstead in West Sussex, is a modern pentathlete (swim, fence, ride, shoot, run) and is also a part of the Pentathlon GB squad. Gabi was told by her school to do no work at all over half term and so to take a break she decided to take on the Ironman Triathlon to keep herself busy. This meant a 3.8km swim (some of it in a local lake) 180km bike ride and a full marathon, 42km. All keeping within the rules of socially distanced exercise. Over a period of 7 days, she cycled, swam and ran the extreme challenge.

She chose the QNI as she wanted to help nurses directly and a friend of her Mum, Kate Holland, is a Queen’s Nurse who suggested the QNI.

Gabi’s Justgiving page is still open, if you would like to donate.

I just wanted to raise some money over half term to go specifically to our amazing nurses!

Gabi Holland

I’m so proud of Gabi’s focus and determination. Somehow she just kept going!

Kate Holland, Gabi's Mum

We are bowled over by Gabi’s incredible achievement! Such a huge challenge for anybody, let alone someone so young. We are very grateful for her fundraising which will go towards our vital work supporting nurses who work so very hard in the community, especially in these unprecedented times.
