March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and I’ve taken on the challenge to walk 1000 miles in 2021 to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and raise funds for Ovacome – the amazing charity that supports women like me with this diagnosis.

Would you be interested in ‘walking with me’, every day in the month of March? It could just be for 15-30 minutes a day or longer, it’s up to you.

From January 1st 2021, I have been walking every day, whatever the weather. We have had some challenging weather but it was never the wrong weather, it was wearing the right clothes. Walking has really helped me both physically and mentally as I come to terms with this chronic disease. It’s great to get out into the fresh air and just walk, occasionally chatting to people in the new socially distanced way.

I initially set myself a goal to walk 2.7 miles a day in order to achieve the 1000 miles, then discovered a great 4-mile circular walk and found myself walking a marathon a week. It felt so good to see my mileage increasing slowly to walking 4 miles a day. This I never would have believed and by 25th February I had walked the equivalent of eight marathons in eight weeks.

We have set up a club: Ovacome Teal Walk – Walk With Me in Strava (a free app) where you can record your mileage and we can link up and support each other. Or on Instagram follow @walk.ntalk2021 and @ovacomecharity – post your pictures too and we can chat and support each other.
