Alison While became a Fellow of the QNI in 2008.
After working as a health visitor in north west London, Alison became a lecturer at Chelsea College, University of London in 1980 and was awarded her PhD in 1985. She was Professor of Community Nursing at King’s College London from 1992 until retiring in 2014 when she became an Emeritus Professor. Over the years she has published widely with a particular focus upon nursing care and health promotion relating to individuals and their families with long term conditions across the lifespan and held a number of visiting professorships.
Alison has been consultant editor of the British Journal of Community Nursing since 1997 where she writes a monthly column. She is a Fellow of EANS and the Royal Society of Medicine. Over the years she has undertaken advisory work with a range of NHS organizations and health charities including being a Trustee of a national children’s charity.
