Gretl has been a Fellow of the QNI since 2012. She has a clinical background in health visiting and worked as a Health Visitor before doing her MSc in Public Health.
Gretl then moved to an academic career at the University of Manchester. She received a Department of Health Primary Care Researcher Development Award, a Faculty Stepping Stones Fellowship and NIHR Post-Doctoral Fellowship, which enabled her to complete her PhD and continue post-doctoral research into the management of osteoarthritis.
Gretl is currently Professor of Applied Health Research, University of Leeds and continues her research into improving health outcomes for patients and the implementation of evidence into clinical practice. She has a strong interest in research capacity development and achieves this through teaching research and critical appraisal skills and mentoring both undergraduate and postgraduate students. She co-edited the book, Health Visiting: A Rediscovery.
