The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) has launched a Christmas Giving campaign to raise funds to support its work with community nurses, specifically its Support for Nurses initiative.

All donations from our Christmas Giving campaign will be put towards our Support for Nurses programme:

The Support for Nurses programme provides invaluable assistance for the nursing profession:

  • Financial support for nurses in times of life crises, such as domestic abuse and significant physical and mental ill health.
  • A Keep In Touch scheme, which connects isolated, older retired nurses with a Queen’s Nurse volunteer for regular phone calls.
  • Grants responding to current circumstances including flood and storm grants.

QNI Chief Executive Dr Crystal Oldman said:

Just as community nurses support people at every life stage, the QNI aims to support community nurses at every phase of their nursing life and into retirement. Providing financial support to nurses in times of extreme need, and keeping in touch with our retired nurses, the QNI aims to be there for community nurses where and when they need it. A phone call on Christmas Day from one of the QNI team is often the only call a retired nurse who we are supporting will receive all day. We also know that this work is only possible with the support of vital donations.  Thank you for all your support during this festive season.

Hear from some of the nurses the QNI’s Support for Nurses programme has helped:

From being in a position where we couldn’t even see us financially getting through the month, let alone the next, to this! We can’t believe this. You all have truly lifted us. My husband reacted to the chemotherapy on Saturday night and was admitted. He’s home now and this has just put the hugest smile on his face. He said this has been the most difficult for him, not being able to provide for his family and it has affected him so much.  You amazing people are sent from heaven.

Marianne*, Financial Support Recipient

I have been housebound for so long now. It is so good to hear from my volunteer weekly – she keeps me in touch with the outside world.

Louise*, Keep in Touch Contact

I wanted to thank you for the kind words at the time of our phone call to discuss the flood grant following the October flood. I will be eternally grateful for the grant which I used to replace a washing machine, air fryer, and purchase a small fridge, and camping stove. As I moved back home and the whole of the lower ground was gutted and stripped back to brick, I had no means of making meals or washing my own clothes until your help. I currently still have no kitchen, but your help has allowed me to remain independent and return to work.

Lauren*, Flood Grant Recipient
