Fiona Nolan is a Clinical Professor & Director of Nursing at North London NHS Foundation Trust.
Fiona is an experienced mental health nurse and researcher who has collaborated with colleagues worldwide, including in China, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe. Originally from Ireland, she moved to the UK to train as a nurse, qualifying at 21, and later earned a degree in Politics and Economics and a PhD in Social and Community Psychiatry from University College London.
With extensive experience in acute inpatient and community mental health care, Fiona began her career as a clinical academic in 1999. Her clinical roles have included crisis team manager, nurse consultant and several years as deputy chief nurse. She has led national evaluations of healthcare services , a multi-national programme to develop post graduate training in mental health for nurses in low-income countries and is current lead for a national study on use of vision-based technology in mental health inpatient settings.
Fiona was previously Chair of the board of trustees of the London Irish Centre, and established and chaired the Zimbabwe Life Project charity, which supports mental health professionals in Zimbabwe. She is a past Chair of Mental Health Nurse Academics UK and is committed to advancing mental health research and nursing education globally.
