Sarah has now retired after an exciting and diverse career in nursing that lasted 50 years. This encompassed clinical practice in intensive care and as a district nurse, teaching, research, and a period in policy development at the Department of Health and as a Director of Nursing in a number of NHS Trusts and in Commissioning.
Sarah was appointed as the first professional chief executive of the QNI in 1987 and was made a Fellow of the Institute. Sarah has held a variety of charitable roles as a Trustee, and as a Governor of Middlesex University, where she was also Visiting Professor between 1987 and 2002. In retirement she continues to engage in a number of voluntary activities, including currently as Lead Governor of East Kent Hospitals Foundation Trust and a Trustee of Pilgrims Hospices East Kent.
